Air Conditioner Compressor Not Working – Having a working air conditioner in Florida is just as important as having air to breathe and food to eat. This is not a luxury, but a necessity, especially if you have children or elderly people at home. So if it suddenly stops working properly, it’s worth worrying.
If you want your HVAC system to work efficiently, all of its components must work properly. Air conditioner compressors are no exception.
Air Conditioner Compressor Not Working
AC compressors are responsible for the heat transfer functions that bring cooled and conditioned air to different rooms in your home. This is the component that transports the refrigerant through the unit and allows cold air to be produced. Air conditioners need a refrigerant to cool the warm air that the air conditioning system pulls out of your home. However, the refrigerant is a gas and needs the help of air cooling machines.
Common Causes Of Ac Compressor Failure
The process works like this: the refrigerant must go through a cycle that changes it from a gas to a liquid and back to a gas. The cycle begins when the compressor converts the low-pressure refrigerant into a high-pressure, high-temperature gas. The gas then passes through a condenser, which turns the refrigerant into a cold liquid. It then enters the evaporator coils, which turn it into a cold gas. The process is continuously repeated and all components work together as a team to keep your home cool.
If you have a faulty compressor, an important component is missing from the others and you are not getting cool air.
Air conditioning compressor problems are often easy to spot. If there is a problem with the compressor, you may experience one or more of these symptoms:
An electrical fault in the compressor will cause your air conditioner to make an unusual buzzing or screeching noise. Another symptom is that the condenser unit vibrates. Do not continue until the sounds go away on their own. You can damage your air conditioner even more.
How Much Does It Cost To Repair An Ac Unit?
Before you assume the compressor is the problem, check the circuit breakers to make sure it hasn’t failed. You can do this by following these steps:
Step 2. When you open it, each switch should show which devices/parts of the house it powers.
Step 3. The switch can be in three different states: “on”, “off” or somewhere in between. If it’s in the middle, switch it to “off” before switching it back to “on”.
Then check the fuel tank to make sure the problem isn’t burnt fuel. You can find this box on the outside wall of your house, next to the condenser unit. To determine if you need to replace your fuel, do the following:

If it turns out that your fuse is blown, you can buy a new one at a hardware store. If, on the other hand, both the switch and the fuse work perfectly, a faulty compressor may be responsible for the lack of cold air.
If your air filter and condensate lines are clean and you are sure there are no refrigerant leaks, the compressor could be responsible for the lack of cold air.
The reason for automatic shutdown is to protect your home from the risk of fire. For example, if you are using multiple devices at the same time (cooking in the oven, doing laundry, watching TV, running the air conditioner and someone is vacuuming), you may need a high voltage system.
Now, if your wires keep falling out and you’ve noticed other air conditioning problems, there’s an obvious problem with the AC unit. Again, pay attention to whether the piece is hot when you reach to touch the button. This is not normal. Call an HVAC technician for emergency service immediately.
What Should I Do If Ac Compressor Clutch Is Not Engaging?
This is one of the first signs of a compressor problem: the air conditioner is still running, but you notice that your vent is blowing less air. It’s not all in your head. If you see this happening, call an HVAC professional for an inspection. Another tip is if you hear the air conditioner running, but when you put your hands on the vents, you can’t feel the air coming out.
If you face any of the above problems, you should seek service from an experienced and reliable professional as soon as possible. The longer you wait for professional help, the bigger your compressor problem will be.
Many different factors can cause air conditioner compressor problems. For example, blown filters are a common culprit. Fuel burning is often caused by breakages. Other factors that often cause compressor problems include corroded wiring or motor overload protection. Problems with compressors showing significant levels of internal damage are not uncommon.
First, try turning your home thermostat to the lowest setting. This should start the outdoor unit, which will tell you if the air conditioner is working fully or not. If the outdoor AC unit turns on but does not operate normally, this may indicate a problem. You can hear the fan running, but not the fan or AC compressor.
Signs Of A Malfunctioning Air Conditioner (ac) Compressor
If none of that works, unplug the cable for about a minute. Turn it back on and make sure the external service switch is on and working. If this does not solve the problem, check the AC compressor capacitor and fan to make sure there are no blockages or obstructions to proper operation.

What Is An Aircon Compressor, And How Does It Work?
While you can probably tell when your air conditioner’s compressor has completely failed — because the air conditioner is no longer cooling your home — you should also be aware of a few other signs to look out for.
After all, some symptoms of a bad compressor show up before it breaks, and timely troubleshooting can save you from going through hot Florida days without air conditioning.
Basically, the air conditioner compressor is the “heat pump” part of your air conditioner. The condenser unit moves the refrigerant inside the cooling coil in your air conditioner to release heat.
This cooler is responsible for removing heat and cooling the air that your appliance brings into your home.
