When I got my first job, adding resume references was pretty common. My high school counselor told me to do it too.
But like high school peer pressure decisions, I wouldn’t do that now.
How To Make A Great Resume With No Experience
Nope? Well, there are special cases where you can include redirects, but you’ll recognize them when you see them. In general, if the job posting or the hiring manager specifically asks for a reference page, at least include it.

Create A Job Winning Resume With References
If the job description or company specifically asked for a list of references to follow (and that really should be the only reason), then three to five strategically selected people are about right. Any more and you’re just wasting people’s time. less and it seems that you don’t have many people who can give you positive affirmation.
The best references to add are job professionals related to the field you are applying for, but not related to you in terms of family. Try to get as diverse a group as possible (not all immediate supervisors).
Be sure to include people who can speak positively about your experience, skills and work ethic. Never mention anyone who has or has had a professional conflict with you.
Don’t rewrite names in your reference list as they come to mind. It’s a lot to ask at first, but it gives you the added benefit of making sure their contact information is correct. Call or email for a semi-formal.
Resume Examples For Job Seekers 2023
Personal references are generally not recommended when putting references on a resume. Why? Well, relatives, so they won’t take it too seriously if they find out that the referral post is related to you. In addition, there is the second drawback that you don’t seem to have found enough professional references. Rely on professional references if possible (unless you’re writing a resume with no experience).
After asking for your reference, it’s good practice to thank them for their help. Also share a copy of the resume you submitted with them so they can be on the same page if and when the hiring manager calls. Finally, when you’ve got the job done, take them out for a nice dinner to pay back.
Professional advice. Thank your connections by sending a follow-up email or short message. Not only is this a fun job, but it also reminds them that they can expect a call from your future employer soon.
If you choose to include work references, please do so on a separate reference page attached to your resume.

Format your reference page the same way you would your cover letter and possibly your resume. If you have minor differences between your cover letter and your cover letter, copy the cover letter.
Your name and address should appear at the top and can be left, right, or centered (follow the same pattern as your other documents). Enter your phone number and email address.
Follow this with the date, then the business address, listed above your first reference on the left; first the name of the employer (if you have one), then the name of the company, then the address of the company.

Finally, add reference headlines/subheadings such as “References” or “Professional References” before adding 3-5 references of people who can attest to your qualifications for the job. If you have both professional and personal references, you can add both subtitles.
