How To Teach Beginner Piano – Learning piano has been a beautiful journey for me since I could read music.
And I can tell you from experience that learning sheet music and knowing how to turn it into songs is a must if you want to be the next great showkiller pianist.
How To Teach Beginner Piano
Playing the piano well means knowing the notes because they are how the instrument communicates with the pianist. And if you don’t understand the contents of the sheet, it’s difficult to start learning the piano properly.

In this tutorial I’m sharing the exact step-by-step method I used to learn to read sheet music.

Piano notation is musical notation that uses musical symbols to indicate pitches, instrumental music, rhythms, or a song. Piano sheet music can be printed or handwritten.
Today it is equally popular around the world, with solo singers and musical ensembles learning to read sheet music rather than learning the piano by ear.

But this rule excludes some traditional songs, old folk music, sacred songs and old people’s hymns because we don’t know the exact names of the authors.
Some sheet music covers may contain character illustrations; others send illustrations, especially when it is not program music.
Notes vary by musical style. For example, in classical music, composers use round noteheads to represent melody and accompaniment on staves.
In jazz, musicians use chord diagrams to understand a song in terms of chord progressions and chord shapes.
Handling Popular Piano Music Requests With New Students
It is important to remember that some chords do not contain rhythmic information in detail, others have slashes representing beats and rhythm for hits that the author wants the whole band to play.
Country musicians use the Nashville numbering system, which uses numbers to represent chord progressions, and blues, heavy metal, rock, and R&B singers generally use chord charts that contain numbers and letters.
Now that you know what musical notation is and its parts, it’s time to learn how to read music so you can always play the right notes.
But that’s to be expected to the untrained eye. As you learn, you will find that reading notes is not only easy but also interesting at the same time.
Beginners Piano Technique Explained
You can’t read piano music if you don’t understand what a staff is and how it works.
Pianists call the staff the basis of written music. In structure, the staff has five staves, numbered 1 through 5 from below, and four spaces, also numbered from below.
Another term you need to understand at this point is the key. If we had to define the button in words, we’d say it’s the leftmost symbol drawn on the stick.
The key signature marks the beginning of a piece of music and indicates the position of the pitch in the musical alphabet.

Bass and treble clefs are common and used to determine the pitch of the music on each line and space indicated on the tablet.
The G clef (pictured above) is very popular on instruments like flutes and trumpets, but beginner piano players can also use it for higher register notation, often played with the right hand.
If you look closely at the stick, you’ll notice that the curve in the button goes around the second row, reading from the bottom. That is why it is also called the G clef.
If you look at the image below, you can see that the fourth row of the pole runs between the two points. This is called the bass clef.

Also known as the F clef, it is the bass clef for the lower registers and should be played with the left hand for piano beginners.
As you can see below, notators use main lines to indicate pitches above or below the lines and staff spacing.
The middle C lies between the treble and bass clave and is often suitable for beginners in piano lessons.
The advantage of ledger lines is that they make it easier for beginners to understand the art of reading music.

And although there can be so many lines above or below the stick in books, two or three are often enough to learn, otherwise the lines are quite difficult to read.
Sometimes you might want to change the pitch by a semitone. If yes, you need to add random before the note.
For what it’s worth, there are two things to consider when it comes to learning piano music:
Second, the accidentals last for one bar and, when they end, return to the slabs or sharps found in the key signature. This also applies if the bar contains other notes.

If the scribe wants to make some notes sharp or flat during the piece, he must indicate this with a key.
To be clear, a key can be a low note or a sharp note, not a combination of the two. The parts raise the pitch by a semitone, while the lower parts lower the pitch by a semitone at the corresponding point.
Here you define the different keys by the total number of crosspoints in the key signature, starting from the far left and going to the far right. To add layers to the signature, do so in order of BEADGCF.
The same applies to sharp objects. There is no transmission to all octaves here.

But you define clefs based on the number of sharps in the key, starting from the left and going all the way to the right, and add them in the order FCGDAEEB.
No need to scratch your head when you need to add whites and sharp tones. All you have to remember is that one is the opposite of the other. Below is a clear image showing this.
It takes time and patience to become better at reading piano music. And the best part is that it has so many benefits, as follows:
And the best way to do that is to keep learning. If you can get your hands on a sheet of music and spend time reading it, you will be able to play a variety of styles of music.
How To Play Beginner Piano Chords
When you can play different styles of music with ease, from R&B and classical to jazz and blues, you put yourself in a position to become a better composer because you are familiar with different piano playing techniques.
Learning piano music will be intimidating when you are just starting out. Some notes will be difficult to master. You won’t play some notes correctly. And sometimes the beats don’t sound right.
But it’s an interesting thing if you’re a beginner. You learn the ropes at a slow pace and get better at it over time.
In the end, reading music will be easier than before. Any song you learn from sheet music is easy to visualize and play. And if you’re good at hearing by ear, you won’t have a problem scrolling up or down.

Learning to read piano music is not something you do to play notes written by others. You can also use art to design personalized sheet music for other beginners to play in piano lessons.
So don’t stop playing what other authors have composed. As you get better at reading music and playing rhythm, try creating your own compositions and sharing them with other pianists.
What is more beautiful in music than the ability to play compositions and melodies harmoniously with other instrumentalists?
To put it bluntly, having a team of music fanatics reading from the same sheet and playing the same notes ensures that there is no confusion and that each note is played at the correct time.

In fact, if you and other players are reading from the same sheet music, the music will likely come out so well it could probably blow the ceiling.
The good thing about sheet music is that they are now plentiful. That means you can play as many songs as you like, regardless of genre.
Whether you’re interested in blues, classical, country, or other genres, sheet music can help you get off on the right foot from the start.
As you continue to interact with different musical notes, you’ll find that not only is playing notes liberating, but you also develop the confidence to try out even more complicated songs with lots of coincidences.
