In the United States, January 2019 marks the day when works will re-enter the public domain. Since the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998, no published works have entered the public domain (well, none due to copyright exemptions).

If you’re reading this, chances are your personal information is publicly available. “Public” means everyone everywhere. It’s never a bad time to build your internet protection and effectively “remove” yourself from the internet. But if you’re wondering, how can you prevent companies from taking your information from the Internet? Short answer: It can’t.
You can never completely erase yourself from the internet, but there are ways to minimize your digital footprint, which will reduce the chances of your personal information being out there. However, be careful: Removing your information from the Internet as described below may negatively affect your ability to communicate with potential employers. Still interested? Here are some reasons why your digital selfie might disappear.
Think about what networks you have on your social media profiles. Outside of the big accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) do you still have old accounts on sites like Tumblr? My place? What about your Reddit account? Which shopping sites are you registered with? Generics may include Amazon, Gap.com, Macys.com, and others.

To delete these accounts, log into your account and look for the option to deactivate, delete, or close your account. Depending on the app, you might find it under Privacy or Security or something similar.
If you’re working with a specific online account, try searching for “How to delete” and then the name of the account you want to delete. Here are some instructions on how to delete the accounts in question. (How to permanently delete your Facebook account without your photos.)
If some accounts cannot be deleted, change the account information to something other than yours. Something fake or completely random.
How To Find Public Domain Materials: 5 Steps (with Pictures)
There are companies out there that will collect your information. They are called information merchants and have names like Spokeo, Whitepages.com, and PeopleFinder, among many others. They collect data from everything you do online and then sell that data to interested parties, specifically to market and sell you products.
Now you can search these sites yourself and check each site in detail to remove your name. The problem is that each site chooses a different procedure, sometimes faxing and filling out actual physical documents. Corporal. Paper work. What again this year?
In any case, the easiest way to do this is to use the DeleteMe service. For $129 a year, the service will jump through all the annoying hoops for you. Also, check back every few months to make sure your name hasn’t been added to these sites again.
Be warned: If you remove yourself from these sites, you’ll also remove yourself from Google search results significantly, making it harder for people to find you. DeleteMe provides you with a DIY guide to self-delete each data sector if you want to do the process yourself.
Keeping Children Safe In The ‘internet Of Things’ Age
First, check with your phone company or mobile provider to make sure you haven’t signed up online, and if so, have your name.
If you are deleting an old forum post or an old blog post that you rewrote, then you should contact the webmaster of those sites. You can look at the About Us or Contact section of the website to find the right person to contact, or go to whois.com and search for the name of the area you want to contact. There you will find information about who to contact.
Unfortunately, private site operators are under no obligation to remove your posts. So please be polite when contacting these parties and make it clear why you want the carrier removed. I really hope they follow through and remove it.
If someone posts sensitive information about you, such as a social security number or bank account number, and the webmaster of the site it’s posted on doesn’t remove it, they can request Google to have it removed.

The removal process may take some time and there is no guarantee that it will be successful, but if you find yourself vulnerable in this situation, it is still your best option.

Let’s say you have a site that you want to extract information about, such as your former employer’s personal page, months after you change jobs. You tap on pages to refresh them. They do, but when you Google your name, the page still appears in your search results – even if your name is nowhere to be found when you click the link. This means that the old version of the page is stored on Google’s servers.

That’s where this tool comes in. Send the URL to Google and it will update its servers and delete the cached search result so that you are no longer associated with the page. There’s no guarantee that Google will remove sensitive information for any reason, but it’s worth trying to make the most of your online presence.
The number of these steps will vary depending on the email account you have.
You should log into your account and find the option to delete or close your account. Some accounts will remain open for a while if you reactivate them.
You need to complete the email address for the previous steps, so do this last.

Remember to be patient with this process and don’t expect to finish it in one day. There may also be some things that you can’t permanently remove from the Internet.
