Tips To Stay Motivated To Workout

Tips To Stay Motivated To Workout – “Jared, I don’t like exercising. I know I need to, but I don’t have the motivation. Any suggestions?

This is part of an email I received from a reader earlier this week… Have you ever felt like this before? It goes without saying that regular exercise is important; I can conclude several studies and research studies that conclude the health benefits of regular exercise. You already know them: lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, better lung function, fewer chronic diseases, etc. Etc. But what happens when even this experience is not exciting enough? What happens when working out just to work out isn’t stressful enough to get you to do it? It’s to you, my less influential friend, that you wouldn’t want to, but you can’t, you can help me that I dedicate today’s blog post. Today I share my top 10 tips to motivate and inspire you to complete your next workout. Here we are!

Tips To Stay Motivated To Workout

1. Find something you enjoy doing! One of the biggest misconceptions about “exercise” and “exercise” is that it has to be done in the gym or on the treadmill. Often people are scared of the gym or don’t like running, so they don’t want to exercise. For me, the biggest key to being motivated is finding something you really love and going for it! If you don’t like going to the gym, don’t. If you don’t like running, don’t do it. Instead, find something you love. Go by foot. Try swimming. There is hiking, basketball, skiing, tennis, intramural sports, etc, etc, etc, etc, make time for it instead of dreading it!

2. Get a friend! One of the most motivating things is finding a friend with whom you share a common goal. Set dates and times with this person you use and do your best to be with them! Trust me: you’ll be more motivated to go if you know someone will be waiting for you. It’s easy to make the snooze button win; its so hard when you know youre with someone based on how youre there with them! (Need a great workout to do with a friend? 3. Bring it out! Exercising outdoors is a great way to stay motivated. The fresh air, ever-changing landscape, and the many types of exercise available outdoors are enough to keep exercise varied, fun, and enjoyable. Beating the monotony is the best way to encourage exercise – get out there and find out what you love about being outdoors! (Not sure where to start with exercising outdoors? Here are a few of my favorites)

4. Make friends at the gym! If you’re a member of a gym and find your willpower waning, take up this challenge. Pick a person you often see there, approach them, and introduce yourself. It’s as simple as, “Hi, I’ve seen you here a few times and I want to introduce myself. My name is _____.” You will be surprised how easy it is! Making friends at the gym creates a social network that you’ll love when you’re around and miss when you’re away.

5. Add your favorite songs to a fun workout playlist! I don’t know about you, but nothing makes me happier at work than when my favorite jam hits my mp3 player! I seem to usually get a rep or two in a set or pick up my speed as I move for 3-4 minutes. Keeping your music fresh is a great way to stay motivated and active while you work. 6. Reward your efforts! Action/reward behavior is one of the most powerful motivators. We all talk about praise for a job well done and awards when we succeed. Why should work be any different? Come with the discipline and come with the reward. Examples are “When I reach my goal of losing 10 pounds, I will buy new shoes” or “If I eat healthy this week I will treat myself to good food to lose weight” on Saturday. When you find a reward for yourself that means more than your behavior, you will be successful.

7. Think about the benefits, not the problem! Let’s face it: Exercise is hard. But did you know that your attitude and pre-exercise attitude can have a huge impact on success? Think about it: Let’s say you’re on your way for a run and you have the following thought: ‘Dude, I don’t like it. It’s hard and I’m tired, the sun is hot and my feet hurt.’, and I’d rather be home now,’ how far do you think that run will take? And when you get home, how likely are you to come back and run after a day or two? Now think about the following: “This is very difficult, but I know doing it now will help me lose weight and get better. I’ll have more energy and I’ll be able to get those cool jeans I’ve been looking for.” The same situation, but with a completely different result: focus on the benefits of exercise and forget about the problem.

8. Diversity matters! If you do the same exercises as part of the same workout at the same time several days of the week, you’ll burn out. It’s just a natural fact. People need variety and spontaneity. We need enthusiasm and challenge. If you’re tired and lack the motivation to exercise, try something you’ve never done before! Try Zumba! Try HIIT! Maybe you can get a full workout at home with strength training! The important part is keeping yourself motivated by keeping things interesting. (Click here for 100 Great Exercise Ideas)

9. Have a fitness contest! Join the office weight loss pool! Don’t have a weight loss pool? Start one! Don’t have an office? Ask friends and family to join you! Want to make it interesting and see amazing results? Let everyone cash in with awesome prizes for the winners! Healthy competition is a great way to stay active and motivated even when you’re not feeling active or motivated! (Check out Tone and Tighten’s “4 Week Fit Challenge”! 10. Take before and after pictures! There is nothing more motivating than seeing results. Unfortunately in the world of exercise, results usually come so slowly that we often don’t realize we’re doing them. This lack of progress is one of the main reasons people become disinterested and eventually give up. Taking the first image (and posting it somewhere you can see it!) gives you a good foundation to refer back to again and again and see how you get better. Put your selfie, then get to work!

So next time you lack the motivation to exercise, try one or two or ten of these tips! I promise you will find the inspiration and motivation you need to take up your next job!

Ways To Stay Motivated During Workouts (that Actually Work)

Most people often start an exercise program feeling energized and full of energy. However, as time goes on, the enthusiasm for the work diminishes. They start making excuses for not having time to exercise.

No matter how committed they are to their fitness goals, there are some people who feel overwhelmed and insecure about how to stay on track with their exercise. (Side note: It’s important to know early on whether your motivation is coming from something internal or external.)

They begin to think that they are too lazy to maintain good health. Some even experience exercise anxiety and avoid gyms
